Technical Training Workshop

Coalsmith Consultants is offering a limited series of seminar workshops that will provide the understanding needed for technical oversight of the coal sampling function at a mine or power plant. The seminar is an excellent source of training and information networking for executives and engineers from power generating companies and coal producers with responsibility for coal-fired generation plants, coal yard operators, power plant  maintenance, fuel procurement, financial auditing, and strategic managers.

The workshop will focus on understanding today’s best practices for coal quality measurement. Technology vendors, energy consultants, and independent contractors will also benefit from the workshop.

• Sampling system layouts and ASTM standard practices and methods.
• How to use coal sampling ratios to detect and eliminate sampling problems.  
• Knowledge of how to form conclusions about the causes of bias.

Stephen Smith, Instructor and Consultant, has over 25 years experience in coal sampling, quality control and project management, and has been responsible for leading many coal quality improvement projects at Tennessee Valley Authority, one of the nation’s largest coal-fired utilities. His background in coal preparation, combustion, and training provide the working knowledge needed to effectively communicate new concepts and facilitate learning.
